Designing A Monument

Picking out a monument for is a very important and sometimes confusing and stressful task. We hope to make the process easier for you. One of the best ways to figure out what type of monument you would like is to visit cemeteries and look at monuments online. In general, when you first start looking at monuments, you will need to make decisions about:

Shape and Size

The shape of the memorial you choose can be a traditional shape (tablet, slant, bevel or flat markers) or a special shape. The size and shape you pick affects how much you can put on your monument and your cost.

Granite Color

There are photos of the most common granite colors in on this page but there are many more colors to choose from if you want something different. Granite prices can vary significantly depending on the color.

Design Choices

  • Writing– Most stones include the basic memorial information: given name, nick name, birth date, death date. Other popular text might include: Parents of, wedding date or a saying or verse.
  • Graphics– These can be symbols or pictures that represent the person. You can find designs that are religious, flowers, hobbies, scenes, career related or anything you can think of that represents the person.
  • Portraits– Many families like to put portraits on their monument. There are three basic ways to do this. Ceramic and GlassArt portraits can be done on any granite color. Laser engraved portraits can only be done on black granite.
