William ‘Bill’ Joseph Weishaar William ‘Bill’ Joseph Weishaar, 79, resident of Colby, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Citizen’s Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born January 27, 1935 in Gem, KS, the son of Harry Joseph and Mary Agnes (Ryan) Weishaar. He attended grade school in Gem, high school at St. Joseph Military Academy (now Thomas Moore Prep) in Hays graduating in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy from December 1955 to December 1961 serving on the William 'Billy' Mitchell Transport Troop Ship as a pipefitter apprentice making many transport trips to and from Korea. He married Marjorie 'Marge' Ann Karlin from Catherine, KS on August 22, 1959 in Catherine. They moved to Colby in 1959 where the family still resides today. He worked at Farmer’s Co-op for six years and as a retail grocer at Colby Supermarket for 34 years. He had been active in Boy Scouts of America for 45 years and was the recipient of numerous awards for his service including the distinguished Silver Beaver Award. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He and his wife were active in the Golden Buckle Square Dance Club of Colby and served as officers. Bill enjoyed fishing, traveling with friends and family, and loyally following and attending the events and activities of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald 'Don' and Robert 'Bob', and grandson Michael Evans Weishaar. Survivors include his wife, of Colby; three sons and their families, Mark & Wendy (Frahm) Weishaar of Phoenix/Colby, grandson Parker of Phoenix, AZ; Gary & Beth (Wiseman) Weishaar of Topeka, grandaughter Amanda and grandson Derrick, both of Manhattan; and Dean & Stefanie (Knox) Weishaar of Lenexa, grandson Colby of Fayetteville, AR, and grandaughter Chloe of Kansas City; sister Joan Koenig Martz of Overland Park, and brother John Weishaar of Salina. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby, with Father Dana officiating and graveside services to follow. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 with vigil services at 7 p.m. at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Boy Scouts of America in his name in care of Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel, 745 S. Country Club Dr., Colby, KS 67701.
