William Schulte

November 14, 1927 — May 9, 2012

William J. Schulte (Bill), Oakley, departed this life on May 9, 2012. Bill was born November 14, 1927 in Angeles, KS to Geo J. and Agnes (Ostmeyer) Schulte. He received his education through the Angeles public school system and later graduated from Grinnell High School. In 1949 George and Bill opened Schulte Home and Auto, Firestone in Oakley, KS. Bill was a veteran of the war being called to serve in 1950 serving two years before being discharged in 1952 as a Staff Sergeant.

In 1954 Bill married Emilee Stoecker and to this union they had three sons, Richard J., Gregory Dean and Mitchell Dru.

Bill was a businessman all his life. In 1955 Bill and Emilee bought Firestone from George and Agnes; owning this business for twenty years. Later in 1969, Bill and Emilee took on the Goodyear dealership where here he continued to work until retirement in 1988.
Bill was a hard worker; he enjoyed visiting with others and who overall loved everyone he met. His success in business can be directly attributed to his work ethic and his natural mechanical ability. He took pride in the fact that he always left his customers satisfied. In 1988 he started to buy ground with the intent of it becoming a hobby, bugging Mackley whom farmed for him.

In his leisure time Bill enjoyed traveling and spending time with his extended family Marci & Tom Engbert and Rob Schulte, all of Wichita, KS, Kris and Sara Schulte, Dodge City, KS, Melissa and Ryon McKivergan, Raytown, MO and all twenty two of his nieces and nephews and their spouses, whom they referred to him as “Uncle Bill.” Many of his friends children also referred to him as Uncle Bill, because that’s the kind of person Bill was, A loving man with a huge heart who always gave more than he received.

He was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the V.F.W. and Oakley Country Club and who also served on various committees throughout the years.
His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Bill had touched in some way throughout his very memorable life.
