William Nye

August 15, 1952 — October 13, 2024

William “Bill” Rodney Nye passed away on October 13th, 2024, at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, KS. He was born on August 15th, 1952, to Christa Mae (Niblack) Nye and Wallace Duane Nye.

Bill attended Colby High School where he enjoyed participating in track and cross country. On November 28th, 1970, he was united in marriage to Marsha (Keller) Nye. Together they had three children: Lance, Travis, and Kylie.

Bill was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He then obtained auto mechanic education at the Denver Institute of Technology and spent the majority of his working years working on both boats and automobiles. Bill, along with his father and brother Don, ran Nye Motors in Colby. He also worked several years as an auto mechanic at Great Western Tire until retirement.

Bill loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, or playing with his grandkids. The lake is where he loved spending most of his time with family. These family outings turned into tradition over the years. When he was inside you could usually find him fiddling with something, reloading shells, or watching his westerns and of course, a Kansas City Chiefs game if it was on. Bill also had a love for animals, not just hunting them. He was known for randomly bringing home a new pet.

Bill was preceded in death by his older brother Denny Nye; father Duane Nye; and mother Christa (Niblack) Nye.

Bill is survived by his wife Marsha (Keller) Nye; two sons, Travis (Erin) Nye and Lance (Amanda) Nye; and his daughter Kylie (Dustin) Bell; brother Don (Ann) Nye; two sisters, Sharon (Clyde) Hunt and Velma (Jerry) Meitl; along with grandchildren, Courtney (Nate) Quagliano, Landon, Tori, Haley, Avery, Taytem, Emma, Coryn, Drew, Dayton, Duncan, and Josie. Bill had one great-grandson, Charlie, whom he loved very much.

The family will receive friends from 3-6:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Gathering Place, Colby. Memorials may be made to the Thomas County Community Foundation and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. For information or condolences visit baalmannmortuary.com
