William “Bill” Henry Frerichs, 92, of Colby, died Monday, February 17, 2020 at Colby Health and Rehab. He was born July 6, 1927, in Goodland, KS, to Heye Frerichs and Mary (Walker) Frerichs-Bolen. Bill served in the United States Marines and was a member of the Colby American Legion. In his early life Bill went to work for the railroad, working there until his retirement. Bill loved baseball and had played on a semi-pro team in Goodland. Later he went on to coach baseball in Colby and coached kids boxing through Golden Glove in Goodland. Bill enjoyed tending to his chickens, goats and sheep and was a member of several goat and dog associations. Bill was good at woodworking and liked to restore furniture. He also grew huge gardens and supplied the whole neighborhood with his produce. Bill was a member of the NRA and in his free time enjoyed rodeo and hunting with his grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Thelma; son William Robert; sister Dorothy Shaw and great grandson Brock William Frerichs.
He is survived by his son Richard (LaDona) Frerichs, of Goodland; daughter-in-law Linda Frerichs, of Savannah, IL; companion Twona Brungardt, of Grinnell; sister Jean Russell, of Goodland; grandchildren, Bret (Jennifer) Frerichs, Brian (Kelli) Frerichs and Malissa Sloan; step granddaughter Kara Ullrich and great grandchildren, Brady Frerichs, Brendan Frerichs, Jett Sloan, Lucas Frerichs and Katelyn Frerichs.
Visitation is 4-6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral service is 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2020 also at the mortuary, with burial in the Goodland Cemetery.
