Vonna Grace Lunsway, 82, of Colby, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2018. She was born in Manhattan, Kansas on January 12, 1936 to Dwight and Eula (Ragsdale) Davis. Vonna was the youngest of three children. After graduating from Colby High School in 1953, she moved to Denver, Colorado and earned a secretarial certificate. Vonna loved to read. She was appointed to the Northwest Kansas Library Association under Kansas Governor Bob Docking’s tenure. During her service, she supported Northwest Kansas Libraries and encouraged others to read.
Vonna worked for several years as a legal secretary for attorney Leon Roulier in Colby. During that time, she learned the business of title and abstracting. She loved the research and attention to detail required by the business. In the early 1980’s, she and her business partner, Terri Vohs Adams, opened their own title and abstracting office, Northwest Title, Inc. in Colby. The business was located in downtown Colby and provided the community with many years of services.
In her free time, Vonna enjoyed gardening, cooking, singing, and playing the piano. She had a beautiful alto voice and sang for many years in the Colby Presbyterian Church. Her friends and family benefited from her green thumb and enjoyed fresh vegetables and flowers. She loved to play bridge and duplicate bridge with friends and was considered one of best bridge partners in the area!
On June 17, 1980, Vonna married Franklin D. Lunsway, at The Lakeside Wedding Chapel in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. They lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every moment they had together. Vonna is survived by: her daughters from a previous marriage to John Sears, Elizabeth “Liz” (Sears) and husband Dan Stone of Gilbert, AZ and Sarah “Sari” (Sears) and husband Scott Wehrmann of Blair, NE; five grandchildren, Erik J. Stone, Jessica Grace Stone, Kristopher Stone, Justin Isaacson, and Aaron Isaacson; one great granddaughter, Ester Grace Stone; sister, Dwila Randell; and, sister-in-law Patricia Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents Dwight and Eula Davis, her husband Franklin, her brother Jesse Duane. Vonna was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed dearly.
Memorial services will be held at Baalmann Mortuary and Crematory in Colby, Kansas on Friday March 16, 2018 at 10:30 am. Immediately following the memorial, a short graveside service will be held at Beulah Cemetery in Colby. After the memorial and graveside services, a Celebration of Vonna’s life will be held at City Limits Conference Center in Colby at 11:30 am. Vonna’s friends and family are welcome to attend to remember her kind spirit and celebrate her life.
