Virgle Hatfield, age 80, of Lakefield, formerly of Atwood, Kansas, passed away with his family by his side, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
Virgle, son of Ben and Sophia (Schuler) Hatfield, was born on Saturday, August 30, 1941, in Ledyard, Kossuth County, Iowa. In 1960, he married Carol Ann Carroll in South Dakota. They lived in Minnesota until1969, when they moved to Atwood, Kansas. Virgle and Carol were blessed with 3 boys Todd, Troy, and Terry.
Virgle worked at the Coop in Atwood for many years, driving propane trucks, fixing tires, and detailing cars. In Virgle’s spare time he helped harvest wheat and corn. Virgle proudly served on the Rawlins County Fire Department for38 years. Virgle was a jack of all trades and was always on the go. His hobbies were working on cars, small engines, mowing lawns, riding his trike, and fishing. Virgle had a heart of gold. He was always willing to help anyone out that needed it. Virgle loved his family, he cherished the times he was able to spend with them.
Carol passed away in 2014, in 2015, he moved back to Minnesota. On May27, 2017, Virgle was united in marriage to Dori Nissen at the Lakefield Community Center. They spent their years living in Lakefield next to family, so they were able to spoil some of their great-grandchildren. Memories of Virgle will be cherished by his family and friends for a lifetime.
Virgle is survived by his wife of 4 years, Dori; his sons Todd (Anna) Hatfield, Troy (Teresa) Hatfield, and Terry Hatfield; stepdaughters Alice Beck, and Jeree Wikstrom; brothers Donald, Lowell, Gerald, Herald, and Eldon; sister Darlene; 4 grandchildren, Cody, Dustin, Alexcis, and Brenna; 1 step-grandchild Kolten; 4 great-grandchildren; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Virgle was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Sophia; brothers Alfred, Ralph, and Ronald; sisters Delores, Helen, Marlene, and Marjorie; and his first wife Carol Ann.
Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Atwood, Kansas. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Atwood. Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood, is handling the arrangements.
