He was true to his word and married Velma on August 3, 1952. God blessed their marriage with four children: Cindy, Gordon, Terry, and Lyle.
Vic and Velma owned and operated Elmer’s Machine Shop until they retired in 1997. They joined Labors for Christ and helped build a Lutheran Church in Dyersburg, Tenn. They enjoyed traveling and traveled until Vic died in 2006 at the young age of 73.

Many hours were spent cheering at athletic events for their children and grandchildren plus attending baptisms, confirmations, graduations, and weddings. The years have blessed Velma with loving Christian families for their children: Cindy and Steve Warner (died in 2011) remarried Steve Dayton in 2021 - Kevin and Stephanie Warner, Diane and Jeremy Guthrie, Jeremy and Megan Warner. Gordon and Karin Rasmussen – Janessa and Ross Volkmer, Kalen Rasmussen. Terry and Cindy Rasmussen – Craig Juenemann, Angela and Bobbie Sander Brandon Rasmussen, Jordan Rasmussen. She was active in the church choir, played the organ, LWML, interior decorator for Trinity Lutheran church and a volunteer for the Orphan Grain Train. Velma hosted many coffee gatherings at her home after church and with her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews into her home. All of her grandchildren enjoyed “Coffee Breaks” and Million Dollar cookies with Grandma. The great-grandchildren, enjoyed visits at the Prairie Senior with ice cream and playing the game pig out. Velma was a hostess with the “mostest”. Her “Bed & Breakfast” was open to many a guest over the years. Velma loved the Lord and shared her faith with all. She often ended her prayers with: “Bless Us to Be a Blessing to Others”
