BARNETT COLBY – Velma Florene Barnett, 97 died Monday, April 2, 2016 at the Colby care and Rehab Center in Colby, KS She was born September 15, 1918 to Louis and Pansy (Bourquin) Schieffer on a farm north of Gem, KS on the same place she resided until her death. Velma was a member of the Gem Methodist Church at a young age. She married Ralph W. Barnett April 1, 1936, worked at the Gem Post Office, attended and raised her family of three boys in the Gem Baptist Church. After all the boys were married, they moved to Garden City where Bill Ministered in the Word of Life Church. Upon returning to the Gem farm, she attended the Wesleyan Church and T he College Drive Assembly of God Church. Velma is remembered for her volunteer work at the Prairie Museum, gardening, quilting, pies and cakes, over 4,000 woven stocking caps for missions around the world and strong devotion for the Lord. Everyone was always welcomed, well fed and loved in her home. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and youngest son Bill. Survivors include two sons, Ron (Norma) of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Marvin (Alberta) of Gem, Kansas, a sister, Sharlene (Bryan) Sarandrea of Stuart, Florida, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cremation has been chosen. Memorial Services are Scheduled for Saturday April 9, 2016 at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel in Colby, KS with Kevin Berens officiating. Inurnment has taken place at Beulah Cemetery next to her husband, Ralph.
