Vance Allen Poage “Grandpa”, of Grainfield, KS, peacefully passed away at his home on August 25, 2023, at the age of 70. He was born to Philip and Claire (Cochran) Poage, on March 12, 1953, in Norton, KS. He married Sharon (Tacha) Poage in 1976 and they had two children, Amy and Tony.
Vance was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed going to the NHRA Drag Races in Topeka, KS, riding his Harley and taking trips to Montana. But his greatest joy was his grandkids and especially his great grandkids. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of Norton Archery Club and Prairie Powder Packers. After retiring from the City of Norton in 2011, he and Sharon moved to Grainfield to be closer to their kids and grandkids. He was currently working at Grainfield Supply.
Vance was everybody’s grandpa, and he was a well-loved man. He liked to give people a hard time and could make anybody smile.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of the home; daughter Amy (Poage) Anderson, of Grinnell; son Tony Poage, of Salina, KS; grandchildren, Andrew (Ellie) Anderson, of Grinnell, Alexis Huber, of Hays, Riley (Amanda) Anderson, of Oakley and Christapher, Dakota, Tommie and Phillip Poage, all of Grinnell; great grandchildren, Carlos, Sawyer, and soon to be baby Anderson, of Grinnell, Kinsley Huber, of Hays and Peyton and Madeline Anderson, of Oakley; sisters, Jackie (Poage) Hill, of Aurora, CO, Jeannie Poage and Jodi Poage, both of Norton; brothers Vale (Sandra) Poage, of Horton, KS, Von (Teresa) Poage, of Norton, and many other close family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Claire (Cochran) Poage; grandparents, Vance and Elsie (McCrea) Cochran and Orville and Helen (Hager) Poage; parents-in-law, Claude and Barbara (Wetter) Tacha and brothers-in-law Pat Tacha and John Tacha.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall, Norton. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, in Norton, KS. A Rosary will take place prior to the Mass. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
