Twila Berniece Carpenter Berry, 88, of Emporia, KS, formerly of Colby, KS and Trenton, NE passed away Monday, January 8, 2018. She was born May 15, 1929 in Colby, KS. Twila was the second daughter born to Charles (Fuz)and Mildred (Kenefake) Carpenter. She attended Levant Schools and later attended cosmetology school in Denver, Colorado. She was a beautician in Denver, Colby and Oakley, California and owned her own salon in all three states. Duane and Twila were married in Levant, KS on February 3, 1945. To their marriage was born four children, Boyd, Loretta, Randy and Sheila. Grandchildren include: Wade Bryant and wife, Kema of Charleston, SC; Shonette Daniels of Corning, CA; Aaron Berry, NM; Adrienne Baulfalk and husband Paul of McCook, NE; Shane Jones and wife, Leisha of Hoxie; John Daniels of Saybook, CT; Jarod Berry (deceased), Matthew Jones and wife, Victoria of Madison; Danielle Nortier and husband, Francois of Admire, Brian Berry and wife, Amber of Jefferson, WI; and Elaine Gray and husband, Trevor of McCook, NE. They had 17 great-grandchildren. Siblings are Wilma Anderson, Oakley (formerly of Colby), Charlie Carpenter and wife, Julie of Leoti (formerly of Colby); LaDean (Deanie) Weber and husband, Darrel of Norton (formerly of Atwood); Norma Smith and husband, David of Emporia (formerly of Colby); and Catherine (Annie) Brooks and husband, Allen of Colby. Twila enjoyed her work as a beautician but also enjoyed helping in Duane's construction business building houses. They both loved to fish and spend time on the water in Colorado, California and Nebraska. Her hobbies were gardening, quilting and reading. She loved to make quilts for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and siblings. She enjoyed sewing for special occasions. Anyone that knew her, recognized that she had a green thumb with both indoor and outdoor plants while her passion was found in all her colorful flowers. She had a dream of playing the piano and played for a short while. While living in Emporia, she enjoyed her great nephew, Ethan Lord while he played the piano for her. She is survived by her four children; Boyd, Emporia; Loretta Bryant, Emporia; Randy, Trenton, NE; and Sheila Jones, Admire, three sisters, one brother and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her parents; a sister, LaDean (Deanie), a grandson, Jarod Berry and great-grandson, Jordan Baumfalk and many aunts and uncles. Services will be held at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel in Colby on Monday, January 15 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 - 5 p.m. A memorial fund has been established with the Pioneer Memorial Library, Colby.
