Thomas Lee Sponsel, 82, of Edson, died Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Hays Medical Center. He was born June 13, 1938, in Emporia, KS, to Christopher and Myrtle (Gould) Sponsel. Tom graduated in 1956, from St. Mary’s High School in Bismarck, ND. He served in the Kansas National Guard from 1960-1968 and was a lifetime member of the Colby American Legion. On February 10, 1967, he married Mary Jane Stegeman, in Colby, KS. They raised their family and farmed near Edson, KS. Tom was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Colby and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Farm Bureau Board. In his free time, Tom enjoyed traveling.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 4 sisters and son-in-law, Henry Elling.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; children, Natalie Konstadinitis, Todd (Wanda) Sponsel, Teresa Jorns, Bradley (Lisa) Sponsel, Sonia (Darin) Snyder and Amber (Paul) Sponsel; 17 grandchildren and 13-great grandchildren.
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
