Thomas Sid McCurdy of Rexford. Kansas passed away on December 5, 2017 at 2:25 P.M. at Citizens Medical Center of Colby, Kansas. Services will be held at 4:30 P.M. on Sunday December 11, 2017 at Rexford Community Church with Pastor Lane Purcell officiating. Arrangements are by Kersenbrock Funeral Home of Colby, Kansas. Tom was born in Petoskey, Michigan on to Sidsel Anna Kamp (Johannessen) and Patrick Eugene McCurdy on November 13, 1966. He graduated class of 1985 from Elkhart Memorial High School in Elkhart, Indiana. Tom was an accomplished student finishing with a 4.0 Grade Point Average, as an Oxford Rhodes Scholar, and with a full ride scholarship to the University of Indiana to study Pre-Med. It was Tom’s life ambition to practice Pediatrics in Marysville, Kansas as it was the geographic center of the continental United States. At his core, Tom was immensely altruistic and compassionate. At the young age of nine years old he took a field trip to the Carrie Tingley Crippled Children’s Hospital of Truth and Consequences, New Mexico. It was this moment that defined the scope of Tom’s life. That day he came home and made a determined proclamation of desire to practice pediatrics stating: “I do not want rich peoples’ children because they can afford the best. I do not want the poor because they qualify for assistance, I want the middle where the parents work hard, but cannot afford the medical care for their children.” The moral fiber he exhibited as a child is truly the standard we should all strive for. He would have told us to be kind, above all else, and to be as good to your fellow man as you would hope they would be to you. Tom is preceded in death by his brother Timothy James McCurdy (May 19, 1970-August 31, 2016. He is survived by his mother Sidsel Anna Kamp (Johannessen), his father Patrick Eugene McCurdy, his brother Robert Eugene McCurdy, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Memorials may be given to any charity or fund of your choice as Tom would have approved of them all. The Family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the first responders who showed up so swiftly and gave their all to aid Tom in his time of need.
