Susan JoAnne Goetsch, 81, of Brewster, KS died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016 at Logan County Manor, Oakley, KS. She was born Oct. 30, 1935 in Randolph, KS, to Milton L. and Susan T. (Smith) Wendland. JoAnne attended Peach Grove Community School and Randolph Rural High School. She attended Kansas State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1957. While teaching at Manhattan’s Lee Elementary School, she met Lyman Goetsch. They were married Aug. 10, 1958 at the Kansas State College Chapel and then began farming at Brewster, KS. JoAnne and Lyman raised two children. JoAnne also taught at Brewster school and Sunday school at the Brewster Methodist Church. She was a member of the Silent Six Club and the What’s Trump Bridge Club. She also worked with the United Way, Western Plain Arts Council, Jolly Janes HDU/EHU Club, Thomas County Election Office, and Prairie Gem 4-H Club. Her passion was caring for her cats, chickens and family.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents; brother Clinton and sisters, Betty and Anita.
She is survived by her husband Lyman, of Brewster; daughter, Susan (Kirk) Wollesen, of Lincoln, KS; son, David (Cari) Goetsch, of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley Wollesen, Robert (Ricko), Ryan, and Regan Goetsch; brothers, Milton “Buzz” (Diane) Wendland, of Autuagaville, AL and Charles (Cheri) Wendland, of Lumberton, MS and brother-in-law Gary (Liberty) Goetsch, of Orlando, FL.
Cremation has been chosen. A memorial service will be Thursday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. central at the Brewster United Methodist Church, Brewster, KS, with visitation Wednesday evening at the church from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Brewster Heritage Center, Western Plains Arts Association or Brewster Senior Center, and may be sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
