Send Flowers Stephen J. Zerr Sr. March 28, 1927 - February 7, 2018 Stephen J. Zerr, Sr., Age 90, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Citizen's Medical Center in Colby, KS. Steve Was born March 28, 1927 to Joe A. and Agatha (Heier) Zerr at the family farm North of Park, KS. He attended a country school South of the farm, finishing 8th grade. He then worked full time at the family farm. In 1950, Steve was drafted to serve his country. He was stationed in Germany and was asked to participate in the military bowling team which brought him great joy. He served in active duty until 1952 and was in the reserves until being honorably discharged in 1956. Upon returning, Steve met and married Louella B. Appelhans on November, 3 1953 in St. Peter, KS. To this union 3 children were born, Steve Jr., Maxine, and Karen. Steve was a farmer, and worked as a plumber for Neal Plumbing for 30 years. He did odd jobs in his spare time. He worked for the Hoxie Sale Barn for 20 years. He also worked for the Quinter Sale Barn one day a week for 5 years. Steve loved tinkering on anything and everything. He could always be found outside or in the garage. Steve loved hunting, especially coyote hunting with trained coyote dogs. His other love was pitching horseshoes. He passed his talent on to his children and then to his grandchildren. Later in his life, he loved the game of corn hole as he could no longer pictch horseshoes. He was on a blowling team for 15 years carrying an average of 200 to 225. Steve also loved playing the marble game, Wahoo, and the card game of Pitch. He was very hard to beat at both. His love of dancing kept him and Lou active for years. Steve was a member of the Sunflower Polka Club for 30 years. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Hoxie, KS. He was also a member of the Grinnell, KS. V.F.W. Steve is survived by his wife Louella, Colby, KS. Son Steve (Lucy) Zerr, Levant, daughter, Maxine Adams, Colby and Daughter, Karen (Dick) Adams, Colby. Sister, Helen Normandin, Colby, KS. He is preceeded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters, son-in-law Brad Rondeau, Grandson Jason Zerr, and numerous brother and sister-in-laws. Viewing will be 2-6pm Sunday, February 11th with Rosary starting at 6pm at Kersenbrock Funeral Home, Colby, KS. Funeral service is at 10:30am Monday, February 12th at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hoxie, KS. Burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery, Hoxie, KS. Memorials given in Steve's name will be designated at a later time.
