Stanley Edwin Sanders was born May 10, 1927 to Carl and Mattie Sanders. Stanley had one brother, Sidney Sanders. He lived and worked on the family homestead outside of Harper, KS until he joined the Army Air force in 1945, serving in the Philippines. He was awarded the Philippine Independence Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal. Stan married Jeannine Nelson in 1948 and they had 4 children: Curtis, Stuart, Susan and Julie. Stan got his Bachelor's degree in Education and taught high school and coached for several years before selling pianos and organs for Nelson Music Co in Hutchinson, KS. Stan and Jeannine were divorced in 1961 and Stan moved to Oklahoma, where he continued to sell pianos. Stan met and married Joan Moore in 1966 and soon they returned to Hutchinson. They enjoyed many happy years together and loved traveling abroad. Stan and Joan moved to Colby in 1987 and he worked in sales for his son-in–law at Roofmaster’s. In 2016, Stan moved to Prairie Senior Living Center where he enjoyed making everyone laugh. He died at PSLC of natural causes on Mon., Dec. 30, 2019.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mattie Sanders; wife Joan Sanders; brother Sid Sanders; sister-in-law Beverly; son Stuart Sanders; step-son Stephen Moore, and step-daughter Sandra Moore.
He is survived by his children, Curt (Diane) Sanders, of Hutchinson, KS, Susan (Fred) Haines, of Colby, KS & Julie (Robb) Ross, of Colby, KS; grandchildren, Luke (Julisa) Haines, of Hays, KS, Jake (Ashlee) Haines, of Colby, KS, Alex (Amber) Haines, of Hays, KS, Jennie (Eric) Reichert, of Kansas City, Jillian (Kevin) Miller, of Wichita, KS, Riley (Mindy) Ross, of Columbus, OH, Katie (Mason) Schoenhoff, of Halstead, KS, & Kari (Dennis) Wilkie, of Omaha, NE; great grandkids, Brianna (Skyler) Wissman, Madi (Dylan) Wiesner, Freddy (Miah) Haines, Lewie, Mac, Levi & Morgan Haines, Camden & Payson Haines, Grant, Ella, Anna, Griffin & Augustus Miller, Addison, Georgia & Cole Reichert, Reagan, Ryder, Rachel & Roby Ross, Kelsi, Madison, Cassidy, Boston, & Sterling Wilkie, Josslyn Schoenhoff; great-great grandchildren, Welker, Riggins & Baron Wissman; nephews, nieces, cousins & friends, too numerous to name.
Memorial Service is 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the College Drive Assembly of God, Colby, KS, with inurnment in Beulah Cemetery.
