Send Flowers Stanley "Stan" J. Jones April 7, 1958 - May 17, 2015 Stan J. Jones Stanley Joseph “Stan” Jones, age 57, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at his home in Colby, Kansas. Stan was born April 7, 1958 at St. Thomas Hospital in Colby to William “Bill” and Olita (Mader) Jones. The fifth of eight children, Stan attended Sacred Heart Elementary School until the Seventh Grade and then attended Colby Public Schools, graduating in 1976. Stan was involved in many activities including Boy Scouts, art, choir, and school plays. He also served as a Church Altar Server and provided music as a Guitarist for services. Stan had numerous friends throughout the years, but a loyal and best friend of his was Todd Woerpel. After high school, Stan went to work for Southwestern Bell, climbing poles and working on phone lines. He eventually moved into residential and commercial installation. Stan worked for Southwestern Bell in Larned, KS before starting his own telephone installation company, which he eventually sold. He then moved to Colorado Springs, CO; when he was offered a temporary position with GTE. This turned into a career with the company in Los Angeles, CA; and he was quickly promoted into upper management positions. While in California, Stan completed his degree in Computer Software with a minor in Marketing, and GTE then offered Stan a different position in Atlanta, GA. This involved traveling around the country training others within the GTE organization. During that time, Stan felt very disconnected from his family and decided to move home to take care of his ailing parents. He spent his most recent years establishing his online business, manufacturing and selling mostly fishing and wildlife supplies. In 2004, Stan became friends with his neighbor Armella Bray, helping her with household repairs, taking her to doctor’s appointments and assisting with household chores. Armella introduced Stan to Vanessa Scheideman, whom she helped raise. Stan and Vanessa built a close friendship that later evolved into a deep love and were married on June 2, 2012. Stan is survived by his wife, Vanessa Jones of Colby; two step-sons, Austin Scheideman of Colby and Bryan Scheideman of Hays, KS. Stan is also survived by his siblings, Dennis (Karen) Jones of Littleton, Co; Bob Jones of Concordia, KS; Cheryl (Don) Varwig of Conroe, TX; Sandy Wilson of Colby; Tammy Wallander of Thornton, CO; Valerie (Lynn) Miller of Franktown, CO and Tina (Terry) Stickel of Colby. Surviving also are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that he loved dearly. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Olita Jones. Stan was laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Colby on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Vigil/Rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Sacred Heart Church in Colby. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on May 22, 2015 also at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Stan’s name to be designated at a later date.
