Shirley May Hutton, of Oakley, Kansas, died on September 22, 2023, at Logan County Senior Living. She was born May 23, 1936, in rural Yuma County, Colorado to Harley and Lorena (Bowden) Salvador.
Shirley graduated in 1954 and went to work at Farmers State Bank in Yuma, Colorado. In September of 1960, she married the love of her life, Derrell Hutton. In 1961, they moved to Seattle, WA, where Derrell was stationed at Fort Lewis, and their son Don was born. When Derrell was deployed to Korea, the family moved back to Colorado, where Shelly was born in 1962. Upon his return from the service, Derrell took a job in Goodland, KS and then Hoxie, KS, where their youngest son Dan was born in 1965. Finally, in 1972, the family moved to Oakley, KS, where they remained. Shirley became the Executive Director of Housing Urban Development, where she worked for 16 years.
She is survived by her three children, Donald Hutton of Colby, KS, Shelly and Chuck Eberle of Hoxie, KS, and Daniel and Terri Hutton of Scott City, KS; grandchildren Tyler Eberle, Stephanie (Ethan) Bretz, Danielle (Nathan) York, Briana (Colin) Williams, Grace Hutton, and Callie Hutton; great-grandchildren Ellie and Kenna Bretz, Charlotte York and Ivy Hutton-Venegas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Derrell Hutton, parents Harley and Lorena, and brother Marvin Salvador.
Visitation will be Wednesday September 27, 2023, 5-7 pm at Oakley United Methodist Church. Funeral Service will be September 28, 2023, 10:30 am at Oakley United Methodist Church.
