Sheryl Kay Brenn, 80, of Levant, died Friday, January 17, 2025, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby. She was born in Beloit, KS, on July 18, 1944, to Kenneth and Hazel (Wilson) Jordan. Sheryl grew up on a farm and loved raising animals and riding horses. She attended Georgia Rural School and Beloit High School, and later Kansas State University where she earned her Family Economics Master's of Science degree.

 

On June 7, 1969, Sheryl married Lawrence Richard Brenn at Pleasant View United Methodist Church, south of Beloit. To this union, three children were born and they raised their family in Hugoton, Kansas. 

 

Sheryl was the Home Economics High School teacher at Johnson and Colby High Schools for several years. She received her CNA license and worked as the Activities Director at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas, then after moving to Colby in 2001, she worked at Prairie Senior Living Complex. She was a member of the Colby United Methodist Church, Thomas County Historical Society, Kansas Authors Club, and the Lions Club, where she served as the District Governor in 2012. In her spare time, Sheryl enjoyed researching genealogy, traveling, reading, crocheting, and tending to her flowers and vegetable gardens. She especially loved her iris and prized orchids. She was a good cook and loved trying recipes from magazines and her many cookbooks. She was involved in several women’s organizations throughout her life including EHU and United Methodist Women. Everyone knew her as the Tupperware lady for many years while raising their family. Sheryl was also excellent at writing short stories and had several of her memoirs published over the years.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Steven Stuart Brenn and grandson Alec Stuart Warren.

 

She is survived by her husband Larry; daughters, Wendolyn (James) Pinsky and Laurel (Joey) Brenn-O’Connor; brothers Charles (Debbie) Jordan, Dr. Ronald (Suzie) Jordan and Arthur (Gloria) Jordan; grandchildren, Evan Worley, Brenn Pinsky, Blake (Britanny Mason) Warren, Brittah Warren, Joseph (Maggie) O’Connor, Jacob O’Connor and Raegan O’Connor and four great grandchildren.

 

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Colby United Methodist Church with burial in Beulah Cemetery, Colby. Memorials may be made to the Thomas County Historical Society, Colby United Methodist Church or the Colby High Plains Lions Club and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
