Scott Matthew Olson, 31, died December 31, 2013 at his grandfather Robert Olson’s home in Atwood, KS. He was born April 2, 1982 in Hays, KS to Rheinhold and Jeaneen (Roy) Olson. At the age of five he started wrestling and continued this until he graduated Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was also a black belt in karate. He graduated, with academic honors, from the University of Texas in 2005 with a Business Administration degree. He enjoyed politics and had participated in a variety of humanitarian efforts such as Habitat for Humanity for Hurricane Katrina, the Catholic Relief Effort and Central America orphanage mission work. While most of his mission work took him to Central America, he also traveled to South America, Africa and Europe. He had worked in restaurant hospitality, pharmaceuticals, then in arbitration services for drug and alcohol abuse victims, but mostly loved working on his grandfather Robert’s farm near Achilles, KS.
He was preceded in death by his great- grandparents, Robert and Hattie (Schmidt) Olson, Oberlin, KS and Dona and Nathalie (Asselin) Roy, Damar, KS.
He is survived by his parents , Celina, TX; brothers, Robert Olson, Shellsburg, IA, and Jonathan Olson, wife Daisy and their children Corbin, Candalin and Keiragan, Maryland Heights, MO; grandparents, Robert and Sally Olson, Atwood, KS and Orville and Evelyn Roy, Palco, KS.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 210 W 13th, Hays, KS, with Fr. Nick Parker, of Atwood, officiating. Another mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday February 1, 2014 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Frisco, TX with Fr. Zach Webb officiating.
