Sandra Squibb

Sandra Kay Hildyard Squibb was born on May 23, 1943 in Kansas City, MO and passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018, in Colby, KS.

Sande’ lived in Baldwin, KS until 1956 when her family moved to Edina, MN where she attended through the 8th grade. She attended 9th and 10th grades in Arcadia, CA and graduated in 1961 from East H.S. Denver, Colorado. After graduation she attended SMU where she graduated in 1965 with a B.S. Degree in Speech Pathology and Hearing. While at SMU she was an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and served as her dorm president. In 1966 she married Sam Squibb, and divorced in 1970.

Sande’ then moved to Edinburg, Texas in 1973 and provided speech and language services in the Edinburg school system. From here she moved her family to Denver where she provided audiology for Dr. Hildyard and Ernie Evans. In 1976 she moved to Colby, KS where she has resided ever since.

She started her own business, Northwest Kansas Hearing Services in 1976, where she provided audiological services and dispensed hearing aids. Along with her own business, Sande’ also worked as a consultant for North West Kansas Education Services. In 2017 Sande’ sold her business and was semi-retired until her recent illness.

Her educational accomplishments in addition to her undergraduate degree from SMU are: M.S. in Early Childhood Handicap Education 1985 and K-12 administration certification from Fort Hays State University; Essentials of Situational Leadership, 1984; certification in Advanced Fitting Techniques. She has also received recognition and awards: Award of Excellence, Northwest Kansas Council for Exceptional Children, 1991; Initiation into the National Professional Speech Arts Fraternity (Zeta Phi Eta) in 1964; Friends of The Hearing Impaired Award in 1991; and in 1992-93 edition of Who’s Who in American Education.

Sande’ also had time to become involved in her community in many ways. In 1988 she was elected as the Democrat Precinct Committee Woman in Thomas County, KS; ADAC Board Member in Colby, member of the Economic Development Council, Active member of AA, member of Sacred Heart Parish and member of St. Monica Circle, cub scout and boy scout leader, member of Colby H.S. Booster Club, Secretary/Treasurer of the State Early Childhood Handicap Association and board member for the Kansas Hearing Association.

She traveled extensively around the world for business and pleasure. She took each of her grandchildren individually on various Rhodes Scholar trips. Lastly, she was never one to shy away from adventure and in 1987 did a tandem sky dive.

She was loved and admired by many. Her family and friends enjoyed all of their adventures with her and she will be missed by all.

Sande’ was preceded in death by both of her parents, Victor Hildyard, I, MD and Vivian Aleen Henderson Hildyard; her two brothers, Victor Hildyard, II, MD and Bruce Warren Hildyard and her close friend and companion, Rudy Lechtenberger.

Sande’ is survived by her two sons, Jason Taber Squibb, his wife Tara, and Trevor Hildyard Squibb; Jason’s children, Ella and Sander; Tara’s children, Kaitlyn and Ben and Trevor’s children, Taber and Cael. She is also survived by her sister Karen Lea Hildyard Connor and husband Bob as well as many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby. The Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018, also at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
