RUTH E. WEED Ruth Erma Weed was born to Herman William Rodenbeck and Mary Theresa (Kersenbrock) Rodenbeck on January 4, 1925 at Colby, Kansas. She passed away peacefully at Prairie Senior Living in Colby, Kansas on June 19, 2015. She was born and raised in Colby. After she graduated from Colby High School, she attended Business School in Denver until 1944. Her mother, Mary, passed away in 1944, Ruth returned home to help with the household. Her brother, Ross, still owns the Rodenbeck farm. She was united in marriage to Milbern Wilson “Babe” Weed on July 31, 1949. To this union two children were born: Cathy Lea Wright, and Daniel Dee Weed. The family made their home on a farm north of Leoti, until they moved to Oakley in 1953. Babe and Ruth built a motel in Oakley, which Ruth continued to operate even after her husband’s death in 1965. She continued to operate the business until she move to Colby in 1989. She was active in the Oakley Christian Church and at times served as a deaconess in the Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Babe, and her sister, Marie Shreve. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Lea Wright of Troy, Illinois, her son, Daniel Dee Weed of Parkville, Missouri, and brother and sister-in-law Ross and AnnaDean Rodenbeck of Colby, Kansas. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
