Ruth E. Chance, 83, Colby, formerly of Jennings, KS, died February 21, 2015 at Citizens Medical Center. She was born July 8, 1931, in Oxnard, CA, to Fred and Ruth (Eck) Kraft. On May 28, 1949 she married Merl Chance at the Jennings United Methodist Church. They spent all of their married life living in Jennings where she was a farm wife and ran Ruth’s Set and Style for 30 years. She was a member of the Jennings United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and was active in the Gideon’s. Ruth enjoyed quilting, baking, the Jennings Book Club, Tuesday Study Club, attending community events and going to the Senior Center.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merl; brother, Herb Petracek; granddaughter, Carie Broadbooks-Simmons; grandson, Steve Allen Broadbooks II and great-grandson, Cache Morris.
She is survived by her children, Helen (Steve) Broadbooks, Blanchard, OK, David (Deb) Chance, Salina and Katherine (James) Guilfoyle, Colby; siblings, Raymond Kraft, Dorothy Webster and Rose Arnhold; eleven grandchildren, Travis (Tera) Chance, Bill (Tiffany) Chance, Brandi (Ryan) Wark, Cale Broadbooks, Sherry (Alan) Biscomb, Kelly (Jessica) Chance, Shawn (Shawna) Chance, Casie (Laramy) Morris, Angie (Brad) Wagoner, Lee (Connie) Albers and Courtney (Ken) McCarty; twenty three great grandchildren, Kayla and Bailee Chance, Ashley Chance, Brooke, Tucker and Talon Wark, Lane Broadbooks, Daxton Neiman, Patrick, Beau, Micha and Japheth Biscomb, Isabella Chance, Jacob Cotton, Zach, Logan and Malachi Chance, Cage and Hayvn Morris, Cali and Riley Wagoner, Kaeden and Kohen McCarty and many other family and friends.
Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Jennings United Methodist Church.
