Russell Lynn Cox, 66, of Oakley, passed away Wednesday, January 15th, 2025, at the Logan County Hospital. He was the youngest of three children of Francis and Vesta Cox, born on November 7th, 1958, in Oakley, Kansas.
Russell was raised in Grainfield, Kansas and graduated from Wheatland High School in 1977. On April 6, 1978, he met Donna Close on a blind prom date. He would later marry her on October 10, 1981. Russell and Donna moved to Oakley a year after marriage while he still worked at the family business at Grainfield Supply until the mid 1990s.
Russell’s hobbies were ATV off-roading, riding motorcycles, hunting and supporting our military and being patriotic. In 1991, 1993, 1999, Russell and Donna adopted Steven, Nathan, and Christopher. He was very proud of his children and enjoyed supporting them in their activities and adventures. You would always see Russell cheering on his kids at their football games and wrestling matches. Russell had a unique ability to bond with others and even more with his personal relationship with God.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Vesta Cox, brother Denny Cox and brothers-in-law, Bill Summers and Randy Sangster.
Russell survived by his wife Donna at home, three sons, Steven, Nathan, and Christopher; his sister, Beverly Summers; sisters-in-law, Patricia Sangster and Nickolet Cox; nieces and nephews, Dalen (Shay) Cox, Dacoma (Dirk) Roth, Dusty (Nick) Zerr, Tera Bowman, Lonna (Justin) Rocha, William Summers, Treva Summers, Matthew (Danielle) Bertrand, Samantha (Shaelum) Barnett, and Stacy (Troy) Tauber; three adoptive grandchildren and many extended family. He was a friend to most and will be missed by many.
A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2025, at the United Christian Church, Oakley, with burial in the Oakley City Cemetery.
