Roy A. Nickel, 91, died Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Logan County Hospital, in Oakley, KS. He was born September 20, 1932, in Goessel, KS, to Arnold and Lena (Gossen) Nickel. Roy attended a one room schoolhouse in Marion County. On December 7, 1952, he married Bernice Keller. Roy served in the United States Army as a medic in Korea and earned the ranking of Private First Class. Roy spent the rest of his years farming, which he enjoyed doing with his grandson David Collins and great grandchildren, Cort, Gracen and Rhett Collins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice; his parents; brothers, John Nickel and Bob Nickel and sisters, Joan Snyder, and Irene Stoecker.
He is survived by his children, Roy A. Jr. (Ilene) Nickel, or Corpus Christi, TX, Debbie (Mike) Collins, of Colby, KS, Robert (Donna) Nickel, of Augusta, KS, and Jennifer (Ron) Barber, of Topeka, KS; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Schroeder, Elma Becker, and Julie Whitman and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Oakley City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Winona United Methodist Church and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. For information or condolences visit baalmannmortuary.com
