Rose Chance

Rose Ann (Cooper) Chance age 85, of Colby, Kansas passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, at HaysMed. Rose Ann was born on March 16, 1939, in Selden, Kansas to John and Rosa (Zimmer) Cooper.

Rose Ann attended school in Selden and graduated from Selden High School in 1957. She was a good student and loved reading, math and history. She loved spending time with her friends and enjoyed playing volleyball and softball.

In August of 1958 she married Melvin D. Kvasnicka at the First United Methodist Church in Colby. Through this marriage they had two daughters, Kim and Kayla. She later married Leroy Chance in Colby. He preceded her in death.

The majority of Rose Ann’s professional years were spent as a bookkeeper and office professional. In Colby she worked at Great Plains Electric, Golden Hardware and L&C Home Health. Rose Ann also enjoyed helping her brother Hubert Cooper cook and serve for events at the American Legion and VFW.

Rose Ann led a full and beautiful life. She was an avid reader, she loved music, playing the piano and working in her yard. She enjoyed cooking, baking and antiquing. She loved spending time with her family and recording family events and history through scrapbooking. She spent quiet time writing and collecting poems, reading and studying The Bible. One of her greatest joys was getting to see her granddaughter Jenna Marie, grow up, and most recently spending time with her great granddaughter, Callie Rae. She also loved keeping in touch with her nieces and nephews.

Rose Ann was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rosa; her brothers, Hubert, Donald, Johnnie, and Ronnie Cooper, and her sister Norma Brainard.

She is survived by her daughters, Kim Kvasnicka of Manhattan, KS and Kayla Kvasnicka (Doug) Stigge of Manhattan, KS; granddaughter Jenna (Sam) Ketcherside of Valley Falls, KS; step granddaughter Raegen (Andy) Barger of Mons, Belgium; step grandson Justin (Meghan) Stigge of Shawnee, KS and great granddaughter Callie Rae Ketcherside and step great grandchildren Sawyer and Eli Barger and Coleman and Ian Stigge. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Marvena Chance, numerous nieces, nephews and friends that she loved dearly.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Monday September 16, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary in Colby, with burial at the Selden Cemetery, Selden, KS. Memorials may be made to the Thomas County Community Foundation going towards the Thomas County Historical Society, and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
