Call to Order Flowers by Phone 1-888-579-7953 Code: 2001730P RONALD DEAN “JOE” CARMEN Ronald Dean “Joe” Carmen died January 16, 2014 at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, Kansas. “Joe” as he was called by his friends and family, was born to Bertha (Carpenter) and Paige Carmen on August 24, 1938 on a farm 7 miles NW of Colby, KS. On November 24, 1957, Joe was married to Alice Peterson near Limon, Colorado. Joe & Alice were blessed with three children: Daniel Paige, Julie Diane and Rhonda Jo. Joe and Alice were later divorced. On February 14, 1975 Joe married Gwen Rawlings. As a young man Joe worked for farmers and was a body man at various body shops. In 1970 he went to work for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company and worked there until his retirement. Joe also had his own trenching company for many years. Joe had many interests including racecar driving, gold mining, wine making, hunting and fishing. He had a great zest for life and enjoyed friends and family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and step-father John Koggie Sr.; his wife Gwen; brothers Melvin Carmen; Darrel Carmen and brother-in-law Raymond Menuey. Joe is survived by his children: Daniel Carmen & grandson Dain of Colby, KS., Julie (Mark) Wiley of Longmont, CO., Rhonda Carmen of Newton, KS., Step-son William Rawlings and granddaughter Ashley Franz of Burlington, CO; two brothers: John (Rose) Koggie Jr. of Goodland, KS and James Koggie of Gem, KS; three sisters: Imogene Menuey of Omaha, NE, Carolyn Anderson of Bussey, Iowa and Colleen (Don) Rall of Rexford, KS and many relatives & friends. There will be no visitation as cremation has been chosen. No Services are planned. The family will greet friends and family from 1pm - 3pm.
