Frances Roberta Luckert died May 26, 2017 at the age of 91. Roberta was born on December 20, 1925 at the family farm eight miles north and three west of Goodland, KS. She was the second child of John and Frances (Nester) Schindler. Roberta attended the first eight grades in a one room school house. She attended Goodland High School and during her freshman year she came down with scarlet fever and diphtheria at the same time. She was sick for five weeks and did not return to school for the rest of the year. After high school Roberta worked at Duckwalls. Then Mrs. Gladys Rohr approached Roberta to see if she would be interested in helping her open a cafe. Mom's Cafe is where Roberta met George Luckert when George and his brother came into eat. Roberta and George were married on October 12, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Goodland, KS. Son Donald was born July 30, 1948. Daughter Marilyn followed May 1, 1951. Daughter Betty was born October 13, 1954. In 1952, George and Roberta purchased the Chris Schmocker farm four miles south of Brewster and that farm is still the family farm today. Roberta and George remained on the family farm until building their home in Brewster in 1984. George and Roberta enjoyed Square Dancing for many years. Roberta was an active member in the United Methodist Women group and the Rebekahs. Roberta also enjoyed bowling, crafts, playing cards and spending time with their friends at the Brewster Senior Center. Roberta is preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, John and Frances Schindler, and her brother, Robert Schindler. Roberta is survived by her son Don (Becky), Brewster, daughter Marilyn Peter (Vernon), Castle Rock, CO, daughter Betty Jensen, Great Bend, sister Mary Puttroff, Goodland, and brother Arnold (Marilyn) Schindler, Scott City. Roberta is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 30th at 10:30am at the Brewster United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Baughn presiding with Graveside Services following. Memorials are suggested to the Brewster United Methodist Church.
