Roberta Darlene Christie, 86, of Hoxie, died Friday, April 5, 2019, at Hays Medical Center. She was born August 11, 1932, in Salina, KS, to Albert and Esther (Bartell) Plummer. Roberta grew up south of Russell Springs, KS. She married Charlie Salmans in 1951. During their 40 years of marriage Roberta and Charlie farmed and raised cattle. They enjoyed many farm animals and she was known for her farm fresh eggs and beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. You could always find her dog Ginger close at hand. After Charlie passed away Roberta continued farming until a friend introduced her to Virgil Christie, from Hoxie. After a short courtship they were united in marriage and spent the next 16 years in Hoxie, enjoying each other’s company. Roberta took very good care of Virgil until he passed in 2018. Roberta then moved to Sheridan Estates, where she met lots of new friends and spent her days quilting.
Roberta was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Salmans and Virgil Christie; an infant brother; and cousins, Delbert, Robert, Donnie and Raymond Bartell.
She is survived by her local cousins, Daylene Bartell and family, Kyle Bartell and family, Delmonta (Louie) Tholen, Isabell Finch, Virgil (Merna) Bartell and Margaret Bartell; granddaughter, Christie Ziegler and Virgil’s daughters.
A Funeral Service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2019, at the United Methodist Church, Hoxie, KS, with visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place in the Winona Cemetery, Winona, KS.
