Robert K. “Nick” Scott, 68, of Oakley, died Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS. He was born May 5, 1948, in Colby, KS, to Orie Kenneth and Elizabeth (Fellhoelter) Scott. Nick graduated from Oakley High School in 1966 and then worked for Kansas Nebraska Gas until a work accident on December 18, 1968 changed his life. After spending 9 months in the hospital recovering he was able to return home. Nick then attended Colby Community College and spent several years farming and raising cattle. He managed the Oakley Country Club for five years, then owned and operated Scott’s Bluff for 18 years. In 2000 he formed Scott Millwright Services with his brother, Ron, and was still active in that. Nick served as a Logan County Commissioner for 20 years and had been awarded the Logan County Conservation Award for planting 2,600 trees at his home south of Oakley. He was a lifetime member of the Butterfield Trail Organization and enjoyed caring for his dog Mazda, hunting, fishing and trapshooting - helping establish the Oakley Trap Club. Nick’s favorite hobby was cooking, especially for family and friends. He was known for his prime rib and had won 7 of the 8 years he competed in the Annual Corn Husking Cook Off. Nick married Marian Kincaid on December 27, 2013.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Harv Hockersmith, John Poston and Vernon Kuhlman.
He is survived by his wife, Marian, of Oakley; siblings, Sandra Poston, Wichita, Sharon Hockersmith (Greg Reaser), Wichita, Ron (Sandee) Scott, Quinter, Dan (Terry) Scott, Superior, NE, Jolene (Steve) Badger, Oakley and Chris (Dan) Robben, Oakley; stepchildren, Aurora Huelsman, Oakley, Cary (Pat) Schwartz, Hays and Brenden Kincaid, Overland Park; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 20 nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 6-8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
