Robert Leitner

Robert “Bob” Joseph Leitner, 87 years, 11months 26 days, Herndon, KS Died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Collier Hospice Center, Wheatridge, CO. He was born June 20, 1926 in rural Herndon on the Leitner homestead to Herman & Nellie (Heasley) Leitner. Bob was drafted into the US Navy (WWII) October 1944 to June 1946. He was a 1947 graduate of Herndon High School. He started farming in 1947. He married Lila Jean (Solko) on March 29, 1951 in Herndon, KS. From 1964-2004, he owned & operated the Leitner Stanrdard Service Station. He enjoyed farming and woodworking.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother John (Jack) Leitner.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lila; six children Linda (Albin) Rizicka, Stratton, NE, Roger (Bonnie), St. Augustine, FL, Sam, Arvada, CO, Connie (Robert) Herzog, Peoria, AZ, Mary (Ray) Carlson, North Platte, NE, David (Kathy), Atwood, KS. His twelve much loved grandchildren Michael, Jennifer, Molly & Megan Leitner; Amanda (Wade) Felker & Janelle Ruzicka; Scott & Jamie Herzog; Dalton Carlson; Samantha, Joseph & Braden Leitner; two Great Grandchildren: Isabella Herzog & Riley Felker.

Visitations will be 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood and a Vigil will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Herndon. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Herndon.
