Robert Carney

March 27, 1952 — February 3, 2014

Robert "Bob" Lynn Carney was born on march 27, 1952 to James Howard and Betty Jo (Ramsey) Carney in Colby, KS. He was the fourth of eighth children. Bob grew up on the family farm and attended Colby Public Schools and was part of the class of 1971. Bob was an active child, keeping up with older siblings, fishing with Grandpa Carney, driving the pickup for Dad to feed cows when he was only four years old, and swimming. One day he rode his bike 10 miles to town to go swimming. Before he could go swimming he stopped at Grandma Pearl's and sewed a patch on his pant leg he had torn on his bike chain riding to town. You did not wear torn clothes to town. He was involved in 4-H, FFA and wrestled for Colby High School. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease his sisters much to their distress. In his young adult life, you would often find Bob headed to the nearest roller rink with a car piled full of people for a fun night of skating. This is where he met Trixie Lu Underhill and later married on October 2, 1971. Out of this marriage came three sons, Shawn, Jeffrey and Bradley. Bob also had a great love for the outdoors and motorcycles. His passion for motorcycles could not harnessed. When his father told him he couldn't have a motorcycle, he kept one in his Grandma's garage and would drive to town, and switch for the motorcycle. Bob loved working with his hands and followed in his father's footsteps as a carpenter. He worked for his dad and with brothers from time to time. Bob was very talented, creative, and ingenuitive. If he wasn't sure hew something worked of how to do it, he studied it and quickly got it done without much direction or plans. Bob was a very unselfish man. If someone needed help, he would not hesitate to help out or give advice. He showed this in his years as a volunteer firefighter, Boy Scout leader, or helping out with many projects for his sons and others. In the later years of Bob's life, he found a new passion that would consume a lot of his time. This passion was spending much time with his granddaughters. Brittany, Alexis, Calista, and Danica were his "girls". Bob spent many Friday and Saturday evenings eating dinner with them and taking them on motorcycle rides. He would often take time out of his work to complete projects for his "girls". One of Bob's last projects was a dresser that was given to Alexis for her birthday last month. Nothing stood in his way of spending time with his Grandkids. Bob is survived by his mother Betty Carney; his sons Shawn and wife Rhonda; four Grndaughters Brittany, Alexis, Calista, Danica; Jeff and wife Kassie; Brad and Savannah, whose wedding he was so anxiously anticipating; three brothers, Howard and LeAnn, Ross and Cathy, Tom and Lisa and three sisters Linda and Gerald Thiele, Patty Gensil, Ruth Burns and Johnny Hennly; plus many close friends and relatives. He joined his father Jim Carney; a brother John, Uncle Charlie and many others dear to his heart.
