Rita K. Schwarz, 99, of Grinnell, died Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. She was born December 11, 1923, in Selden, KS, to Frederick and Rosa (Kaus) Juenemann. Rita married Walter Schwarz on June 4, 1946. They made their home on the Schwarz homestead northeast of Angelus. To this union, seven children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter; brothers, Ben, Lawrence, Norbert, Gerald and John; sisters, Sister Rosalyn Juenemann and Alvera Long and son-in-law RJ Dickman, Jr.
After Walter’s passing, Rita moved to Grinnell. She worked for the City of Grinnell for 24 years. Rita was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a church organist at St. Paul’s Angelus, and Immaculate Conception, Grinnell, for many years. She was also a member of the Altar Society in both parishes.
She is survived by her children, Victor (Sondra Sanborn), of Menlo, KS, Carl (Rebecca), of Colorado Springs, CO, Laurita (Vince) Berland, of Abilene, KS, Leona Dickman, of Grinnell, KS, Eugene (Linda), of Oakley, KS, Robert (Nancy), of Grinnell, and Rosalie (Joe) Capo, of Atwood, KS; siblings, Melvin Juenemann and Sister Carolyn Juenemann; 26 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Grinnell. Funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Angelus, with burial in the church cemetery.
