Rita Kay Peters, 68, of Colby, passed away Friday, July 16, 2021, at Citizens Medical Center, in Colby. She was born July 8, 1953, in Alma, NE, to Maynard and Carol (Capstick) Ross. Rita grew up on the family farm and graduated in 1971, from Northern Valley High School, in Almena, KS. She then moved to Hays, KS, to go to cosmetology school. She had a beauty shop in her home in Goodland. In 1988, Rita moved to Colby and worked in insurance, until her retirement in 2015. Rita married Rod Peters on July 25, 1997, in Denver, CO. Throughout her life, Rita enjoyed music. She was in a band and played the organ. Rita also enjoyed cooking, taking her daily walk, and playing games and cards with her friends and family. She loved attending her grandkids activities and always made her family her top priority.
Rita was preceded in death by her stepson Mathew Peters.
She is survived by her husband Rod, of Colby; daughter Robin Faber, of Colby; stepsons, Mike and Marc Peters, both of Texas; parents Maynard and Carol Ross, of Alma, NE; brother Rodney (Tonda) Ross, of Almena, KS and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. A Memorial Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021, also at the mortuary.
