Richard Williams

Richard John (Dick) Williams was born November 24, 1944 to John Ambrose and Mary Clara (Ruda) Williams in Colby, Kansas. He passed away on February 10, 2015 in Hays, Kansas. Dick attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Atwood and graduated from Atwood High School in 1962. He also attended St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, Kansas. In April 1964 he married Suzanne Jones and to this union they were blessed with three wonderful children, Lisa Marie, Amber Michelle and Richard John Jr. He worked at the Atwood Lumber Company, was a lineman for the Rural Electric Company, and eventually owned and operated the Plainsman Tavern in Atwood. Dick and his father-in-law, Pete Jones, later operated the Sears Catalog Store for many years. Dick worked for the Kansas Lottery Commission for over 25 years retiring in 2013. He acquired a lot of friends in the lottery family and the stores in his territory. His grandchildren were a joy in his life, Bailey Morgan Williams and Richard John Williams, III, “Trae”. He was a very avid sports fan and very involved in the Atwood High School sports activities, The Denver Broncos, and Kansas Jayhawks. He enjoyed his coffee get together with his buddies, the Big 12 Tournaments with his children, and Broncos games with friends and family. His wardrobe was mostly Kansas Jayhawks, Atwood Buffaloes and Denver Broncos. He was Dad, a good Dad, to his children and Papa, a good Papa, to his grandchildren and an Uncle to so many who thought he was so cool. Since he was an only child, all the nieces and nephews were from the Jones side of the family and they all loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and John Ambrose Williams, his in-laws, Pete and Vi Jones, sister-in-law Shirley Jones Martinez, nephew, Dan Lindstrom and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his children, Lisa Dalton and husband Jason, Amber Williams all from Liberal, KS, Rick Williams and wife Alex from Colby, KS and granddaughter Bailey Williams of Liberal, KS, and grandson Trae Williams of Colby and Suzanne, the mother of his children. Brother-in-law, Jerry Jones and wife Sue, aunts Dorothy Jones and Mary Ann Jones, many nieces and nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
