Richard Roesch

Richard “Dick” Roesch, 73, rural Atwood, passed away March 10, 2022, at Citizens Medical Center, in Colby, KS. Richard Lee was born May 19, 1948, in Colby, to Charles Frederick “Fritz” and Frances Marie (Harry) Roesch. Dick grew up in southwest Rawlins County, attending country school until the 5th grade. He graduated from Colby High School in 1966. After graduation, he attended Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School in Goodland, graduating with a certificate in automotive technology in 1968.

Richard was united in marriage with Linda Lucille Weed on June 10, 1967, in Levant, KS. During the first year of their marriage Dick and Linda lived in Goodland, while he completed vo-tech. After graduation, they moved to rural Rawlins County where they spent the remainder of their lives farming and ranching. They were blessed with four children: Tracy, Mandy, Karen and Scott.

Dick was a hard worker his entire life. During the early years of their marriage he worked various jobs, including a short stent as a mechanic and construction laborer in Colby. He began his farming and ranching career raising hogs and cattle. In 1983, he stopped raising hogs and focused solely on his true passion, cattle ranching and farming. Dick and Linda enjoyed taking their family on vacations to national parks and numerous museums over the years. In their later years, they lived an active social life, enjoying many trips to Cheyenne Frontier Days and various antique and western heritage auctions. As his family grew, Dick enjoyed his role as Grandpa. He enjoyed taking the grandkids for horseback rides and attending their sporting and school events.

He was preceded by his parents; wife Linda; in-laws Kenny and Chris Weed; uncle Bobby Lee Schroeder and cousin Leon Schroeder.

He is survived by children, Tracy (Dwight) Coleman, of Imperial, NE; Mandy (Brad) Leitner, of Hays; Karen Bryant (Jim Wright) of Manhattan and Scott (Jessica) Roesch, of rural Atwood; nine grandchildren, Wade (Adriell) Elwood, Taylor (Weston) Bainter, Mallory (Tyler) Oxford, Lexy Leitner, Macy Coleman, Jason Bryant, Ethan Bryant, Cora Roesch and Ladd Roesch; four great-grandchildren, Whitley Elwood, Pryor Elwood, Hudsyn Elwood and Delilah Bainter; brother Charles “Chuck” (Beatriz), of Colby; sister Marcia (Dave) Wagoner, of Colby; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Albert) Schmidt, of Oakley, and Trudy Heath, of Dighton; aunt, Helen Schroeder and cousin Robert Schroeder, both of Levant, along with many friends.
