Richard “Dick” Henry Dempewolf, 89, of Colby, died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Citizens Medical Center. He was born in Dresden, KS on July 3, 1925 to Frank and Anna (Meitl) Dempewolf. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, where he reloaded bombs at the Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot in Hawthorne, Nevada. On May 7, 1957 he married Jean Moellering, in Angelus, KS. In early years, Dick worked at the Decatur Coop in Oberlin. Then after moving to Colby he worked for the City of Colby at the Community Building for twenty three years. He was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He could fix anything and was known as a "jack of all trades". He will be remembered as a faithful husband, great dad, loving grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles in 2005; four brothers, Vic, Gene, Jerry and Don; four sisters, Carol Peterson, Edna Hendrix, Pauline Ritter and Delores Zerr.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of the home; children, Joann (Clint) Newton of Salina; Steve of Colby and Wayne (Regina) of Littleton, CO; daughter in law, Dana Dempewolf, Colby; sister, Dianne (Myron) Kleidosty, Simi Valley, CA; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby.
