Richard Lee Cox, 99, of Colby, KS passed away January 14th, 2022 in his home in Quinlan, TX with family present. He was born November 18th, 1922 to James and Ollie Cox in McGregor, TX. Richard served in the United States Navy as a Motor Machinist’s Mate, Third Class in World War II in the Philippines. He married Elsie Mae Bloom on April 10th, 1952 in Roswell, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elsie Mae Cox; wife Laverne (Dahnke) Cox ; his parents James and Ollie Cox; eldest son Eddie Lee Cox; 5 brothers; Robert Cox, Leonard Cox, Thurman Cox and two infant brothers.
He is survived by his children Bob (Jeanette) Cox of McPherson, KS; Connie Lewsader (Marvin Skagerberg) of Quinlan, TX; Don (Ginger Mays-Dodrill) of Galmey, MO; Karen Matzen (Bob Ward) of Clearwater, KS; Rich (Kristie) Cox of DeSoto, KS; Ken (Rhonda) Cox of Sioux Falls, SD; Jackie (Dan) Hovda of Palacios, TX and brother Harold Ray (Diane) Cox of Richardson, TX. At the time of his passing there are 24 Grandchildren, 49 Great Grandchildren and 12 Great, Great Grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a lifetime member of the American Legion in which he helped establish the Sons of the American Legion Chapter, Post 363. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and fishing. He loved his family and grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them how to play pinochle, dominos and how to fish.
The memorial service will be at 10:00 am May 28th, 2022, at Baalmann Mortuary in Colby with graveside services at Beulah Cemetery with military honors.
