Phyllis Eileen Alexander Haffner passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the age of 82. She was born on June 19, 1941, to Bill and June Alexander in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She attended Pinedale High School. After graduation, she went to Denver, Colorado to attend business college where she met her good friend Donna Kraft. Donna introduced her to her boyfriend George Haffner’s brother Nick Haffner, and the two began dating.
Nick and Phyllis were married on September 2, 1961, in Park, Kansas. Nick and Phyllis settled on a farm seven miles north of Park. To this union three children were born, Brent, Colleen and Rodney. Nick and Phyllis moved into Park in 1999 after Nick suffered a stroke.
In 2008, Nick and Phyllis moved to the Poudre Canyon in Colorado. This had long been a dream of Phyllis'. Nick passed away January 1, 2010, and Phyllis continued to reside in the Poudre Canyon until her death.
Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies, but her favorite was gardening. Anytime she could be outdoors playing in the dirt, she was content. She had gorgeous flower gardens as well as vegetable gardens. She also was very handy with her hands and crocheted, macramed, knitted, and sewed. She also enjoyed passing the time putting together puzzles and reading. She worked part time at the Glen Echo Resort in the laundry room. There she made many friends and enjoyed visiting with the tourists. Right before her death, she exclaimed "I am so lucky, I got to live my dream for the last 15 years." She truly loved those mountains and the many friends she made.
Survivors include her sons, Brent (Flo) of Garden City, Kansas, and Rodney (Kay) of Grainfield, Kansas; daughter Colleen Skala of Broomfield Colorado; grandchildren Brendan Haffner, Zackary Lloyd, Nickolas Lloyd, Marissa Haffner, Courtney Lopez, Ryan Skala, Kendra Haffner, and Kyler Haffner.
