Peggy S. Rummel, 85, of Oakley, died Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Logan County Hospital. She was born October 2, 1933, to MC and Velma (Turner) Alley, in Batesville, AR. Peggy’s mother died two years later. Peggy, her sisters Joe Grace and Pat and brother Larry were raised by their paternal grandfather, JC Alley, in Antonia, CO. Years later Peggy and her grandfather moved to Kansas to be closer to family. Peggy attended Atwood Schools. On August 8, 1949, she married Victor E. Rummel, a bricklayer, in Atwood. To this union three children were born, Wesley, Mike and Vicki. Peggy’s grandfather continued to live with her, until he passed away from complications from a broken hip. Peggy loved family, quilting, crafts, crocheting, bowling, sewing and reading. She worked as a nurse’s aide in Atwood and later in Oakley. In 1974, Peggy got her GED and went on to get her LPN at Colby Community College. She worked at Logan County Hospital, in Oakley, until retirement. She looked forward to going to lunches with her coworkers monthly.
Peggy was preceded in death by her mother Velma and father MC Alley; grandfather, J.C. Alley; brother Larry Alley; sisters Jo Grace Higley and Patricia Warren; husband Vic; son Mike and one stillborn grandson.
She is survived by her children, Wes (Izetta) Rummel and Vicki (Ervin) Eicher; nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2019, at the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center, Oakley, with burial in the Oakley City Cemetery.
