Paul Leon Wagoner was born in Colby, Kansas on November 24, 1937. He passed away on November 13, 2016 at his home in Colby at the age of 78. Paul attended school in Colby and spent a short time at Fort Hays State University until he was summoned home to work at Colby Wrecking Yard when his dad was involved in a terrible accident. He married Lois Jean Aschenbrenner on January 23, 1960 in Colby. To this union four children were born, a daughter Julie in 1960, sons James (D) in 1961, Jeff in 1963, and Tony in 1965. Paul grew up working in the wrecking yard that his parents started in the 1930’s. He enjoyed running the wrecker, working with iron, welding and running the car crusher. His hobbies were countless. He loved building cars; the first car he built was a 1923 Ford T-Bucket and the second one was a 1935 Chevy Panel. He spent all his spare time working on these vehicles and perfecting his craft. He also enjoyed bowling, playing pool, music, building model cars, flying his remote control airplanes, attending dirt track races, riding motorcycles and playing card games and board games with family and friends. He and his wife, Jean, led several grand marches at wedding dances and hosted numerous get-togethers with their friends. Paul’s love for his family was unconditional. He would drop everything whenever one of his children or his wife called for help. He travelled miles in the wrecker to pick up their stalled vehicles; sometimes making the trip twice. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Gregor and Margie Wagoner and son James Allan Wagoner. He is survived by his loving wife Lois Jean (Aschenbrenner) Wagoner of Colby, his daughter and son-in-law Julie and Ken Sanford of Colby, his son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Lesley Wagoner of Colby, and his son and daughter-in-law Tony and LaVon Wagoner of Paola, KS; six grandchildren Sheliah Amburgey of Nashville, TN, Sara (Jory) Friesen of Colby, Amber (David) French of Louisburg, KS, Tasha Wagoner of Colby, Alex Wagoner of Paola, KS and Brock (Summer) Wagoner of Colby; two brothers Charles (Pat) Wagoner of Colby and David (Marcia) Wagoner of Colby and a sister Tama (Roger) Sundquist of Loomis, NE, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
