Send Flowers Pansy Pearl Barton Age 89 died April 13, 2016 in Colby, Kansas. Pansy was born on July 9, 1926 to James and Pearl Ross Brooks in Russell Springs, KS. She attended school until 8th grade in Russell Springs, Kansas. On October 13, 1941, she married Robert (Bob) Barton at the age of 15 in Russell Springs, KS. They were married for 72 years. Bob joined the United States Army on November 23, 1942 and Pansy stayed with family in Pueblo while Bob was overseas in WWII. After the war ended, Bob and Pansy made their home in Russell Springs, Kansas until 1952 before moving to Solomon then moved to Colby in 1954. Bob and Pansy had 13 children to their union. Lena (Carl) Peters, Barb Nichols, Gary, Jerry (Peggy), Rhonda Barton, Brian (Johnnie), Jeff (Melanie) all of Colby, Ed of Overland Park, Rick of Montevello, AL, Pat Griffin of Greeley, CO, Connie (Dan) Schmidt of Hays, Randy (Shelley) of Atwood, Debbie (Allen) Brown of Gilbert, AZ and 51 Grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, 2 brothers and a sister, a son-in-law, 2 grandchildren, and a great grandchild. Pansy never worked outside of the home, but worked countless hours caring for her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. Pansy loved nothing more than having her family nearby and was happiest when all of the family was packed into the little house on Franklin Street that seemed to have a revolving door of family coming and going. Pansy loved many more than just her own as family. Pansy spent countless hours on the telephone because she loved to talk even daily to anyone that couldn’t visit. Pansy was skilled at crocheting Afghans and rarely used a pattern. All of Pansy’s family will continue to be wrapped in her love because they all have at least 1-2 Afghans made by her, yes she probably made over 500! Pansy was a proud mother and grandmother, always wanting to know all about her family’s activities and how they did. It was important to Pansy to have a picture of each family member on her wall and those pictures covered almost every square inch of one room in her house. Pansy became an avid sports supporter first to her many sons and their wrestling careers and later to “her boys” the KU men’s basketball team and Kansas City Royals. Pansy was a loving mother to her own families and many others and will be dearly missed. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Beulah Cemetery. Memorials in her name can be made to Colby Health and Rehab or Hospice Services.
