Opal Mae Bretz, 90, Wallace, a lifelong resident of Logan County, died Saturday, December 08, 2012 at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, KS after a lengthy illness.
She was born September 15, 1922, south of Oakley in a sod house, the daughter of Minnie Elizabeth “Beth” (Wise) and William “Bill” Oliver Martin. She attended Monument Schools.
On June 16, 1948, she and Tauscher U. Bretz were married at the Methodist parsonage in Oakley and made their home west of Winona for the next 64 years.
She enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening and was a member of the Jolly Neighbors Extension Club, Wallace, and the United Methodist Women, Winona. She was famous for her delicious angel food cakes.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother (Billy) and sister (Leila). Survivors include her husband, of Wallace; two sons: Richard (Jean) Bretz, Wallace and Michael (Roberta) Bretz, Goodland; three grandsons: Blake (Rebekah) Bretz, Centennial, CO, Warren (Melissa) Bretz, Junction City, Kaler Bretz, Hays and one great-grandson, Noah.
She was a dedicated wife, a loving mother, an adoring grandmother and was very excited to become a great grandmother.
The memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 11th, 1:30 C.T. at the United Methodist Church in Winona. The family invites everyone to lunch, which will be served at the church at noon.
