Ollie May (Slawson) Durant, 95, Oakley, Kansas, died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Trego County Long Term Care. She was a Logan County resident for nearly 65 years.
She was born in Pratt County, Kansas, September 29, 1921 to Monroe Frank Slawson and Maude Elizabeth Sanders. She graduated from Holcomb High School in 1942. She married Kenneth H. Durant on June 29, 1942, in Garden City, Kansas, with whom she had 5 children.
Ollie was a homemaker, 4-H leader, and she was a cook at the Oakley public schools for many years. One of her most loved activities was playing Bingo. She rarely missed a Bingo event if she could get to one. She also was an avid card player and was very competitive with her friends and family playing a game of cards.
Survivors include two sons Robert (Earla), Grainfield, KS and Steven (Mike), Omaha, NE; three daughters, Kendall (Bill) Ottley, WaKeeney, KS, Katherine Wessel, Scott City, KS and Janet Smith, Oklahoma City, OK; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and nineteen great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson Bruce Durant; two brothers, Harry and Earl Slawson; three sisters, Vivian Becker, Opal Becker, and Dorothy Arnold and two sons in law, Charles Wessel and Maurice Ford.
Cremation was chosen and a graveside service will be held at the Oakley City Cemetery on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. The family suggests memorials to Trego County Long Term Care, in care of Baalmann Mortuary, 304 E. 8th St., P.O.
