Norval Phelps

Norval Lloyd Phelps, 89, of Atwood, passed away March 4, 2014 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Page City, KS, May 8, 1924 to David and Alta (Scarrow) Phelps. He attended Beardsley grade school and then graduated from Atwood High School in 1942. He served in WWII in the U.S. Navy from May 9, 1943 until he was discharged on April 20, 1946.On September 14, 1946 he married Gloria Stinnette,and to this union 3 children were born Dianne, Michael, and Patrick. Norval loved outdoor activities and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents David and Alta Phelps; sister, Helen Higgens and brother, David J. Phelps Jr.

Survivors include his wife Gloria; children, Dianne Nida of Hays, Michael Phelps of Wheat Ridge, CO and Patrick Phelps of Lincoln, NE.; brother, Donald Phelps of Atwood; Four Grandchildren and Eight Great Grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, Atwood. Memorials are suggested to the Atwood Lake Fund in care of Baalmann Mortuary, 109 N. 2nd St, Atwood, KS 67730. Online condolences: www.baalmannmortuary.com
