Nelda Dinning

Nelda Marie (Nelson) Dinning, was born June 12,1928 on a farm north of Page City in Thomas County Kansas, to Severina Johnson Nelson and Oscar Nelson. Nelda passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family, on February 28, 2017 in Westminster, CO, at the age of 88

She married Ray Gene Dinning on Dec 30, 1951, at the Methodist church in Oakley, KS. To this union, two children were born, Brenda Sue Dinning and Cynthia Ann Dinning. Nelda was a retail sales clerk, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grand mother.

Known as Nanny to everyone who knew her, she opened her home to those in need. She traveled extensively with her husband, Gene, during his Navel career. She and her family enjoyed fishing and a variety of crafts. They were involved in VFW activities and many community charities wherever they lived, giving what they could to those in need.

Following the deaths of her husband in 1998 and daughter Cindy in 1999, she moved from Colby, KS, with her granddaughter, Jamie, to Colorado in 2004 to be closer to her daughter, Brenda. She loved to go to bingo in the big city several days a week and play lottery scratch tickets.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Gene; daughter Cynthia Ann Boeger; her parents; seven brothers, Everett Leroy Nelson, Wayne Albert Nelson, Claude Clayton Nelson, Virgil Carl Nelson, Leo William Nelson, Charles Alva Nelson, and Donald Lee Nelson; two sisters, Laverne Mae Nelson Schertz (Harold) and Louanna Mae Nelson Meadows (Gene) and granddaughter-in-law Dawn Lee White Dinning (Michael).

She is survived by her daughter Brenda Dinning Murphy, Northglenn, CO; Son-in-law Mark Boeger, Colby, KS; her sister Darlene Nelson Agan, Oberlin, KS; eight grandchildren, Michael Dinning, Pratt, KS, Brian (Debbie) Quagliano, Colby, KS, Jamie Heyen, Northglenn, CO, Tracey (TJ) Boeger Wilcox, Youngsville, NC, Brandy Boeger, Hays, KS, Justin Schiltz, Northglenn, CO, Rebecca Schiltz McMillan, Garden City, KS and Kyle Boeger, Colby, KS; 13 great-grandchildren, Nathan and Casey Quagliano, Colby, KS, Nicole Solomon (Dinning), Great Bend, KS, Brice and Ray Dinning, Pratt, KS, Taylor Schiltz, Holcomb, KS, Brendan Schiltz, Thornton, CO, Destin Wilcox, Youngsville, NC, Morgan Boeger, Hays, KS, Sammy, Alex, Callie and Ethan McMillan, Garden City, KS.

Following Nelda’s wishes of tissue donation to the Denver Donor Alliance and cremation, a memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley, KS, with inurnment to follow in the Oakley City Cemetery.
