Myla Kathryn Dawes, 68, of Oakley, died Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, in Hays, KS. She was born August 14, 1953, in Oakley, KS, to Clyde and Naida (Blevins) Blair. Myla grew up in Oakley and graduated from Oakley High School in 1971. On June 24, 1972, Myla married Deveron Dawes and the couple made their home in Oakley, where they raised three daughters. Myla was a mother, housewife, and a caregiver. She cared for family and worked as a private caregiver until retiring at the age of 60. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, St. Joseph Altar Society, American Veterans Motorcycle Club (AVMC) Sisters and a former member of the Tri-State Coalition of Concerned Motorcyclists. In their spare time, Myla and Dev enjoyed motorcycle trips, especially the trip in 2000 when they joined the Run for the Wall group and were able to tour Washington D.C, New England, and Canada. Above all, Myla loved being around her family and treasured the time spent together at their vacation house in Butte, NE. She had a good life and many good times with family and friends.
Myla was preceded in death by her father Clyde; sister Lila Jones; son-in-law Dustin Criqui, Sr. and grandson Ben Chadwick.
She is survived by her mother Naida; husband Deveron; daughters, Tami (Lonnie) Chadwick, Kamela (Michael) Friesen and Sarah (Josh) Rumback; siblings, Stanley (Theresa) Blair and Shirley (Rob) Burroughs; friend and brother Randy (Laurie) Weigel; sisters-in-law, Tammy Goldsworth and Susie (Rick) Rosborough and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial Service is 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the United Christian Church, Oakley, with inurnment in the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, WaKeeney, KS.
