Melvin Quint, 84, of Grinnell, died Saturday, March 12, 2011. He was born March 2, 1927 to Anton and Bertha (Holzmeister) Quint in Loretta, KS. Melvin attended Bison High School (class of 1945) and Hutchinson Community College (Class of 1947). He married Josephine Unrein on Nov. 22 1949 a marriage that lasted 61 years. Melvin resided in Grinnell where he worked forty four years for Coop Union Mercantile Co Inc and managed for thirty one years. He also organized Tri County Credit Union in 1960 and operated until his death. Melvin was a member of the Grinnell Education Association, Immaculate Conception Church (Grinnell) and Knights of Columbus as a 4th degree Knight. His main joys in life were growing a garden and flowers, watching his grand children play sports and loving his family.
His is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Delores Stegman and a brother Harold Quint.
He is survived by his wife Josephine; four children, Linda Windholz and husband Augie (Hays), Ilene Beckman and husband Joseph (Oakley), Royal Quint and wife Eileen (Raton, NM) and Marcie Wolf and husband Rick (Grinnell); two brothers Fred and wife Kay (Pueblo, CO) and Ted and family (Quinter); three sisters Carol Backer and husband Bill (Torrance, CA), Alverna Kopsky (Hot Springs, SD) and Julie Rome and husband Leonard (Lakewood, CO); nine grand children, Tracie Schardein, Mark Windholz, Jody Beckman, Eric Beckman, Kayla Nuss, Tarin Giacomo, Raquel Quint, Jessica and Amanda Wolf; eight great grand children, Marissa, Mallory, Kyler, Alisha, Jade, Chance, Brianna and Laurel.
A visitation will be will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Parish Center with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Church, Grinnell.
