Maxine Nickelson, 95, of Oakley, passed away peacefully in her home on November 28, 2020. She was born on May 21, 1925, to Fred and Mabel Hullet. She graduated from Oakley High School in 1943 and briefly attended Brown Mackie College in Salina, KS. On June 6, 1948, she married Harry Nickelson, with whom she had 4 children. She was dedicated to education and was proud to watch all of her children graduate from college. She was an active member of the Oakley Methodist Church, Kansas Wheat Growers Association and involved in numerous social and community activities. She enjoyed an active life and traveled often, including traveling to Hong Kong with her best friend Alberta Aherns and cruising to Alaska with her sister Darlene. Maxine spent years involved in the Silhouette Shop with her sister Lucine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Lucine Albers and brothers Charlie and Melvin Hullet.
She is survived by her children, Sheryl (Charles) Denny, Colby KS, Terry (Marilee) Nickelson, Overland Park, KS, Judy Woofter, McAllen TX, and Jerry Nickelson, Oakley KS; sister Darlene Stramel; brothers Kelvin and Elvin Hullet; nine granddaughters; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be open to the public from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2020, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. A private funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Oakley Methodist Church, with burial in the Oakley City Cemetery.
