Mary B. Smith, 88, of Colby, died Friday, September 13, 2013. She was born February 5, 1925 to Jasper and Laura (Carter) Ballinger in Long Beach, CA. She attended nursing school and received her RN degree. Mary married Dr. Floyd L. Smith on December 29, 1948. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, P. E. O., Citizens Medical Center Auxiliary, Pi Gamma, Pioneer Memorial Library Board, United Way and Walkers and Talkers. Mary was extremely active in the community helping with Girl Scouts and serving Meals on Wheels for over 30 years and volunteering wherever help was needed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Floyd L. Smith and her brother Dr. Carter M. Ballinger.
She is survived by four daughters, Sue (Ron) Evans, Colby, Nancy (Lyle) Saddler, Colby, Sally Smith, Colby and Lauri (Lee) Deviney, Austin, TX; a son, Floyd “Bud” (Cindy) Smith, Durango, CO; nine grandchildren, Jill, Michael, Jeffery, Brian, Cade, Zane, Wyatt, Austin and Lindsey; four great grandchildren, Christina, Alexandrea, Brody and Hudson.
Visitation will be 4-7:00pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Memorial service will be 11:00am on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, Colby.
